Nice New Mac Mini now with HDMI and more . . . .

Apple have introduced a great looking new version of their entry level desktop Mac, the new Mac Mini is greatly refined and now offers a great feature set, the most important one being that it's a Mac!

7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches thin. It also has a built-in power supply, which means it lacks a bulky external power brick, which Apple said means the tiny desktop Mac takes up even less space than before, with 20 percent less system volume than the previous model.

"The sleek, aluminum Mac mini packs great features, versatility and value into an elegant, amazingly compact design," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With twice the graphics performance, HDMI support and industry-leading energy efficiency, customers are going to love the new Mac mini."

The new Mac mini includes the Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics processor, which delivers up to twice the performance of its predecessor. It also comes standard with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 320GB hard drive, and 2GB of RAM at the $699 starting price.

Rode Procaster, my new microphone

I have been searching for a new mic for some time, to be used for voice over, narration, Skype, Podcasts that I am planning to do when I get some time so a few months ago I bought an MXL V69 Mogami vacuum tube mic and was actually a little disappointed in it, very good quality but picks up a lot of background noise, then last week I was pleased to find out a mic I already had is a classic, Sennheiser MD441 but it still wasn't quite what I was looking for so I just took delivery of a mic that I am really impressed with, fully manufactured in Australia by Rode mics, the Procaster. It has similarities to the classic ElectroVoice RE27, similar size and sound, very well made too. They have a USB version called the Podcaster but this one (the Procaster) is black and aimed squarely at the broadcaster and voice over artist, it's designed to pick up the spoken word, very good quality and priced at only $240. I have the shock mount, foam wind screen (a MUST) and a Heil Sound boom system.

And it looks superb! Apple have gone back to the drawing board and they are innovative again like they were with the original iPhone. This 4th generation device is so much better than the awful looking 3G and 3GS models, flat black glass on the back, squared off bezel and a ton of great features the most important of which is the forward facing camera which should make their new video chat feature 'Facetime' be a real winner.
